The Langford Store, Bainham: 1986 and 2021
When I passed by the store in 1986, it was still operating but happened to be closed at the time I passed by. When I re-visited in 2021 it was not only open for business but I found it is still in the hands of a descendent of the original owners. Bainham is in the Aorere Valley, inland from Collingwood in Golden Bay.
Wellington urban motorway: 1978 and 2015
This section of the Wellington urban motorway is seen looking south from the Aurora Terrace overbridge. It was officially opened in late 1978. Just out of sight round the bend, is the northern portal of the Terrace Tunnel.
Stephen McGrath, Upper Buller Gorge: 1980 and 2017
When I passed by in 1980, Stephen had only recently bought the old Newton Hotel and small adjacent bush farm beside the Buller River. In October 2017 he's still there, has developed the farm, built stables and still has his Clydesdales.
Fishing boat at Coromandel wharf: 2016 and 1984
The same boat, the 'Gay Dolphin' is still using this jetty, thirty two years on. The old hut on the wharf remains, but has been turned around at some stage, possibly when the wharf needed repairing.
Shop at Rawene: 2016 and 1986
This craft shop is built out over the water on the edge of the Hokianga Harbour. Back in 1986, it was the Rawene Butchery.
Boatshed Cafe at Rawene: 2016 and 1986
Today the 'Boatshed Cafe' sits on piles out over the edge of the Hokianga Harbour on Clendon Esplanade.
Back in 1986, it was indeed a boatshed.
Shop at Kohukohu: 2016 and 1986
This old building in the main street of Kohukohu has been lovingly restored and houses a small art gallery: one of several in this small town in the Hokianga. In 1986, the building looked run down, overgrown and on its last legs.
